Yes, the highly-anticipated Momofuku Noodle Bar Toronto is finally open! There has been so much hype around its opening… it’s about time! World renowned chef David Chang brings his food phenomenon from New York City to Toronto and people are eager to get a taste of this craze. Located in a glass cube a few steps from Shangri La, the Noodle Bar is a modern white oak space with communal counter tops surrounded by soaring ceilings and windows.
I arrived for lunch and although there was a bit of a wait, it was quickly dissipated by my excitement. I also need to mention how impressed I was with their smooth and efficient wait list system, the dapper gentleman at the door took down my name and number on his iPad. Twenty minutes or so later, I received a text message informing me my table was ready – no pager required! Finally seated inside, le boyfriend and I ordered the pork belly buns and Momofuku ramen (pork belly and shoulder, fish cake, poached egg, scallions and nori) to share. The buns were absolutely divine, served with hoisin sauce, scallions and cucumbers, they were exactly what everyone has been raving about. The ramen was tasty: the noodles were fresh and the broth was so flavourful. The foodie inside me was beaming with joy. I wanted to order more but after one too many experiences of over ordering, we decided there would be many more returns for drinks and dinner. I’ll definitely be back to try the Chicken and Egg dish!
