Katherine McNamara is a young starlet to watch! She will be making a big Disney Channel debut in the Halloween Movie of the week “Girl Vs. Monster”- premiering October 12th! McNamara is no stranger on the screen- you might have recognized her in the romantic comedy “New Year’s Eve” and her guest roles on Glee! This actor, singer, dancer, songwriter is also going to be starring in the upcoming 2013 film Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn as ‘Becky Thatcher’! Katherine balances acting with her passion for education and graduated high school at the age of 15 and is now pursuing a degree in Business at Drexel University’s Le Bow School of Business online program. It doesn’t stop there… her very first break into the business, was in the broadway production of A Little Night Music with Catharine Zeta-Jones!!
Lucky for us, Urbanebloc got to catch-up with Katharine and get to know her a bit better:
Question: You’ve been in movies, television, and broadway for so many years. When did you first KNOW you wanted to become an actress.
Katherine: I actually haven’t been in the business that long compared to most of my friends! Up until I was 12, I was a softball pitcher and a ballerina and had no interest in acting. Then, I ran into a family friend who was directing a community theater production and needed some dancers. I was the kid who always loved trying new activities, so I thought I would give it a try. From the moment I stepped on that stage on opening night, I knew that acting is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Performing brings me this indescribable joy – I feel that it is what I am meant to do.
Q: To add to your diverse talents, you sing, write music, dance…AND you’re currently studying Finance in University! How do you find time to juggle all these things?
K: I’m a very driven person. I am focused on my goals and always do my best to strive for them. I love school and have always been a huge nerd. Education has always been a priority to me so I have always made sure to build in enough time in my schedule to get my homework done. In regards to the career side of my life, I love my job, so it is not hard to stay focused on my career goals. I get to play dress up for a living! What could be better than that?
Q: You’ve accomplished so much at such a young age, who do you look up to as a performer? Any role models?
K: There are so many amazing people in the business of acting. A few of my favorite actresses are Viola Davis, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Audrey Hepburn. I look up to them as role models as well as they are all such amazing, talented, strong women.
Q: What are your Top 10 songs on your iPod?
K: Part of Me – Katy Perry, We Found Love – Rihanna, Born This Way – Lady Gaga, Airplanes – B.O.B. Featuring Hayley Williams, Dark Side – Kelly Clarkson, Sparks Fly – Taylor Swift, Santa Fe – Newsies Original Broadway Cast, Good Girl – Carrie Underwood, Just the Way You Are – Bruno Mars, Gonna Get Over You – Sara Bareilles.
Q: What do you like to do for fun? Any hobbies?
K: Most of my free time is spent with friends and family. I feel that time with those we love is more precious (and often more fun) than anything else! I also love to bake, knit, take a walk, or cuddle up with a good book.
