Apothic Red Launch Party at The Thompson Hotel

Recently, I was lucky enough to attend the launch for brand new wine in town, Apothic Red.

Now, I am a red wine drinker, and actually aspire to become somewhat of a snob, so needless to say I was looking forward to this event to see what the E& J Gallo Winery  (owners of Apothic Red) had in store for us this night.

Originally from California, the wine is an unusual blend of dark fruity Syrah, spicy Zinfandel, elegant Merlot, rich Cabernet Sauvignon, and was quite nice – light enough for those who may prefer white wines, yet bold and flavourful enough for red connoisseurs.  You could really taste the hints of vanilla, chocolate, raspberry, coffee, cinnamon, and black current, throughout. It definitely helped that there was a delectable scent table on-hand, and I had just taken a wine course a few days before (I’m totally serious about the wine-snobbishness, as you can see).

For those of you wanting to get into the nitty-gritty, the name Apothic, was inspired by an Apotheca, a mysterious place where wine was blended and stored in 13th century Europe. Since Apothic Red is a style all its own- not Bordeaux or Merlot for instance, this name seemed like the most appropriate choice.

Apothic Red is available now at your local Wine & Spirits shop. You also visit www.apothic.com or follow @ApothicRed on Twitter for more information.
